Board of Education - Pursuant to City Code, the Mayor is the ex officio chair of the Board of Education. The Board of Education has 7 members plus the ex officio chair. Maine School law sets the duties of the Board which involve governance, management and operation of the public schools, including the appointment of the Superintendent of Schools and furnishing a budget request for the support of the public schools to the Council, Mayor, and City Administrator.

The Board meets twice per month, once at 90 Beach Street for Workshop and once at City Hall for a meeting.
