Marriage Licenses

Persons wishing to be married in the State of Maine must apply for a marriage license from the City Clerk's Office. Maine residents may apply in the city in which one of them resides. Non-residents may file in any City in the State of Maine. Once the intentions are filed and the license issued, the parties are free to marry anywhere within the State. I.D. must be provided when filing for a license. Persons previously married, must present certified documents indicating the dissolution of the former marriage.

There is no waiting period for the license to be issued. Both parties must sign the license before it can be issued. The license is then valid for 90 days from the date of issuance.

The fee for a license is $30.00. Following the ceremony the license is permanently filed with the City Clerk's Office in the City/Town it was issued. Certified copies can be obtained for a fee of $10.00 for the first one and $5.00 for each additional one the same day.
