If I'm registering a new vehicle, can I do everything in Saco or do I have to go to a Motor Vehicle branch office?
In most cases, you can do everything here to register a new vehicle. However, if you are under suspension to operate a motor vehicle or are required by the State of Maine to file an SR-22 form, then you will not be able to complete the entire process right here in Saco and will have to go to Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
What you will need to bring in to City Hall to register your new vehicle depends on where your new vehicle was purchased, from whom it was purchased and what paperwork the seller or you have already completed. When in doubt, bring everything related to the new vehicle that you have (such as a blue Title application, green dealer's certificate, proof of insurance, the window sticker aka Monroney Label, your prior registration, a bill of sale, prior owner's title, Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin, any lien holder information or lien release information). Please call us if you are not sure what to bring, so we do not have to send you home to get the necessary documentation.

Are taxes going up next year?
We will not know that until the budget is approved at the beginning of June each year. This is a decision made by the City Council when approving the budget.
Why do I have to register my dog?
The State of Maine wants to try to assure that all dogs that roam have had their rabies vaccine.

A $25.00 late fee, in addition to the licensing fee, will be required after Jan. 30th. Should the name of an owner of an unlicensed dog appear on the Dog Warrant, on April 1st, the Animal Control Officer will give the owner an opportunity to license their pet. The owner will be required to pay a $10.00 late fee in addition to the licensing fee. Should the owner disregard the request, the Animal Control Office may issue a summons requiring the owner to appear in court.
