On October 27, 2010 Matt, 12, was home alone when he heard a knock on the front door. As he went to see who it was, he saw someone sliding something between the doors. Having heard about break-ins that happen just this way, Matt quickly grabbed the cordless telephone and dialed 911 as he headed into the back yard for safety. He remained calm and collected as he relayed information to the dispatcher, including the color of the vehicle the persons drove away in. This enabled responding officers to locate the vehicle and determine that the occupants were going door-to-door proselytizing, not breaking in. Officer Kevin Gray recognized that Matt's presence of mind was very helpful and in the event of an actual burglary, would have kept him safe. Matt earned a Challenge Coin for his efforts!
