"Neighbors Helping Neighbors" is a recurring theme in many Challenge Coin stories, and part of what makes Saco special is the way ordinary people think nothing of going well out of their way to make sure that their neighbors' needs are met. When Nancy's diabetic husband was stricken with a life-threatening medical emergency, the Saco Rescue was called. As they worked furiously to get him to a medical facility, Nancy was unable to meet the rescue at the hospital because of a lack of transportation. Her neighbor Sherry would have none of this, however. Although she was due to work that day in Boothbay Harbor, Sherry stepped forward to put Nancy's needs before her own to make sure that Nancy could be with her husband in his time of need. In spite of the fact that she still had an hour-and-a-half drive to get to work, Sherry made the time to make sure that Nancy's needs were met before her own!
We thank Sherry for her kindness and empathy in Nancy's time of need, and Officer Chris Hardiman presented her with a Challenge Coin for her selflessness.
