AmeriCorps NCCC Team "ICE 7"

Below are brief profiles of the team members. We'll be updating this page with photos and progress on the team. Last summer Saco hosted two AmeriCorps teams which worked on a trail connecting the Eastern Trail with Route 1 and on the city's Reverse 911 system.

The team will be working on the following projects:
- Using GPS equipment provided by the Department of Public Works, locate, identify, inventory and assess the condition of all drainage culverts in the city;
- Using GPS equipment provided by the Department of Public Works, locate, identify, inventory and assess condition and effectiveness of all roadway safety and directional signage in the city;
- Using GPS equipment provided by the Department of Public Works, work with the Code Enforcement Department to locate, flag, check the condition and inventory all flood elevation markers;
- Continue building the Industrial Park Trail begun by a previous AmeriCorps team;
- Begin building the Saco City Park Trail;
- Construct a dock and picnic area on Dubois Pond in the proposed city park.

TEAM PROFILES
Michael Nilon, Age 24, from Gainsville FL, Team Leader. Michael recently graduated from the University of Florida then deciding to dedicate his life to service. He enjoys reading, playing athletics and meditation.
Nancy Strahan, Age 24, from Southern California, Assistant Team Leader. Nancy has graduated from the University of California at Davis with a degree in Environmental Horticulture. She likes to camp, snowboard, and watch for satellites. Her goal is to experience all she can in life.
Darcel Hawkins, Age 18, from Fenton MI, Team Caregiver. Darcel loves playing sports, dancing, writing, and making the most out of life. She states that "I want to experience everything I dream. We are what makes everything beautiful, so I am here to color the world."
Melinda Jeanecek, Age 19, from San Diego CA, Service Learning Coordinator. Melinda was going to community college and working full time before she joined NCCC. She hopes to either lead a career in art, environmental work, or a combination of the two. She likes art, music (drums), nature, and high adventure activities.
Katy Johnston, Age 19, from Corpus Christi TX, ISP Coordinator. Katy has worked with the Student Conservation Corps. (SCA) since the summer of junior year in High School. Before joining NCCC, Katy was an intern for six months with the forest service in Colorado.
Sara Kinsey, Age 23, from Houston TX, CAP Representative. Sara has graduated from St. Edwards University with a degree in Communication. She likes shiny red objects, toothpaste, and duct tape. Sara also aspires to be a professional groupie.
Andrew Powell, Age 19, from Emporia KS, Portfolio Coordinator. Andrew was attending Emporia State University and working full time as a Manager at a local fast food restaurant before his decision to join. He enjoys singing, drama/stage construction, and being with his friends.
Phil Rooney, Age 18, from Suburb of Minneapolis MN, Media Representative. Before coming to NCCC, Phil completed his first year of college. He likes to relax to some good tunes and a good book, but that doesnŐt mean he doesnŐt like to live it up.
Steven Rajakovic, Age 36, from South Dakota, Tool Swamper. Steve was born in the back seat of a Greyhound bus. He was a degree in sheep herding and a minor in scalp care from the University of Sheep and Hair. Steve enjoys watching goats in his free time.
Alex Schwanberg-Wright, Age 20, Minneapolis MN, Team Photographer. As a child, Alexis wanted to be a professional popcorn seller. She says she will figure it all out someday. Until then she will dance the night away.
Jennifer Zubiate, Age 23, from Montpelier VT, Newsletter Coordinator. Jen graduated from New England Culinary Institute with an Associates degree in Culinary Arts. She enjoys poetry, music, and organic gardening.
