Re: Bridge Posting

Dear Home Owner:

Our office has recently received an inspection report from CLD Consulting Engineers concerning the Stackpole Creek Bridge. We are attaching this report for your review.

Beginning 8/29/01 we will be closing the bridge down to one lane. Engineering design work has been authorized and has commenced. Temporary bracing will be the first effort as we look to start rehabilitation design work. We feel this is the best solution at this time to avoid a potential hazard.

Should you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me at our office 284-6641.

Sincerely,

Larry Nadeau

Director of Public Works

Re: Bridge Posting

Dear Home Owner:

As reiterated to you in a letter dated July 24th of this year we made you aware of the deterioting condition of the bridge running over Stackpole Creek. We have received the inspection report done by MDOT. The report states that the bridge is in very poor condition with a risk of collapse and that the risk is very high during high water flows. Being such we will close the bridge during these periods during our design process. The full MDOT inspection report is available at the Public Works office for anyone wishing to view it.

We are moving quickly in taking additional steps to ascertain appropriate weight limits during the planning stages of required repairs. The firm of CLD Engineers of Manchester, NH. will be doing weight and load evaluations along with looking at the design criteria, as suggested by MDOT, including other recommendations if deemed appropriate. CLD Engineers has done MDOT bridge design work prior, the latest being the Deep Brook Bridge replacement off Route 5 in Saco.

Please rest assure we have your best interest at hand and will keep you posted on developments that may affect your well being as this information becomes available. Should you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me at our office 284-6641.

Sincerely,
Larry Nadeau
Director of Public Works

Re: Bridge Posting

Dear Home Owner:

As you may have already noticed, the Simpson Road Bridge has been posted at Stackpole Creek, with a weight limit of 15 tons. The Public Works Department has found settlement in a couple of places requiring an MDOT inspection and finding report. Lowering of the weight limit is a precautionary measure until we have determined it is suitable for full weight use. Please proceed with care.

Should you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me at our office 284-6641.

Sincerely,
Larry Nadeau
Director of Public Works
