Simpson Road Bridge: Memorandum
This is the August 20, 2001 memorandum to City Administrator Richard Michaud from Larry Nadeau regarding emergency repairs to the Stackpole Creek bridge on Simpson Road.
To: Richard Michaud, City Administrator
From: Larry Nadeau, Director of Public Works
Date: August 20, 2001
Re: Emergency Repairs to Stackpole Creek Bridge/Simpson Road
CLD Engineering, through DeLuca-Hoffman Associates' engineering services contract with the City of Saco, has commenced the review and recommendation of the Stackpole Creek Bridge's structural integrity. Lisa Martin, PE will be leading the CLD team. Appended is the CLD proposal to DeLuca-Hoffman Associates.
CLD will be presenting at the Council Workshop on August 27, 2001 an information and finding overview to the bridge's defects. Efforts to have final recommendations for repairs may be ready, however, the window is short. We will at least brief the Council with significant insight on the bridge's potential during the final design phase for construction.
We are appending MDOT's courtesy inspection report for review as well. As is noted this bridge does not qualify for State funding support because of its span. We are also pursuing an effort to get the bridge listed under MDOT's historical listing. This listing may qualify us for funding, however this is not assured as of yet.
We have also met with FEMA to have these damages consider under the March declaration. It is our opinion that the damages could of occurred at this time. We will report to the City Administrator the finding of this potential.
For the interim we are at least mobilized to assure a quick resolution to the bridge's present defect.
