"Green" Means Something New at SBSI
Maine's oldest bank is on the cutting edge with the development of its operations center on Industrial Park Road. The Saco Biddeford Savings Institution building appears to be the first LEED certifiable building in Saco, incorporating environmentally friendly "green" building techniques.
The design, materials and construction of this building comply with the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System(. It is a voluntary, national standard for utilizing local and recyclable materials to create energy efficient, high-performance buildings.
Some unique characteristics of this 14,400 sq. ft. building include: under the floor air conditioning which is very efficient and clean, moveable walls and cubicles to create a flexible workspace, sensors that increase the lighting on cloudy days and after hours, sound masking systems to reduce noise, a waterless sprinkler system in the computer room to avoid water damage and redirecting the heat created from the computer room air conditioners to warm the stairwells.
The building is tentatively slated for completion in July and will initially house the Information Systems Department, the Networking Department, Electronic Services, Item Processing, Security, Training and the proposed "Call Center". The building is adjacent to the Hampton Inn.
