Antique Appraisal Day May 19 at Saco Museum
It's time to find the silver teapot in the attic and to take that oil painting off the wall and learn what they might really be worth. Just take them to Antique Appraisal Day at the Saco Museum from 10 am to 2 pm, Saturday May 19.
The appraisals will be made by noted antiquarian Bruce A. Buxton and colleagues. Buxton has auctioned and appraised antiques, fine arts, decorative arts, furniture, silver and other items all over the United States for 38 years. He is considered to be one of the finest antiques experts in New England, and is especially knowledgeable about fine art, porcelain, metals, and furniture.
Appraiser Doug Harding will also be on hand to value books, documents and manuscripts. Other specialists include Geraldine Wolf, jewelry; Phyllis Gaul, glass; and Dyer Library Director Leslie Rounds, linen and textiles.
Bring one, two, or three treasures to show Mr. Buxton's team of experts. Objects should be small enough to carry in your arms. Appraisal fees are"
- One item: $10;
- Two items: $18;
- Three items: $25
No stamps, coins, or bottles, please. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Saco Museum, 283-3861, www.sacomuseum.org.
Even if you have nothing to appraise, come to the museum to listen to Buxton educate as he evaluates objects from visitors. Buxton will also speak at 12 noon about two paintings by Albert Bierstadt, donated to the museum by the late Mary Merrill, and at 1 p.m. on portrait painter John Brewster Jr.
Lunch from the grill will be served in the museum yard starting at noon.
