Issuing License Plates at City Hall
Starting last May, the State of Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) granted the City of Saco customer service representatives the authority to issue most types of license plates for people who wanted to register a new vehicle and needed new plates.

Prior to being able to process such new registrations, we could only renew your registration or process transfers if you were keeping the same plates.

Many of you have taken advantage of this new service across the year. Most of you have been very happy with this new service, because it means no more trips to Kennebunk or South Portland BMV facilities and waiting in long lines!

This new service is part of our ongoing effort "to enhance our community through exceptional service." It is especially important to note that no new "personpower" was required to add issuing plates to what we can do at City Hall. In fact, we have trimmed our workforce that handles motor vehicle registrations by 20% -- and we now have shorter waits when there is a line!

Through process improvements, such as with cross training employees, and technological innovations, such as automation (you can read more about automated payment processing elsewhere in this newsletter), we have been able to "do more with less."

It is extremely important to the city organization to improve on what it does and how it does it in order to really deliver exceptional service. When you leave here smiling, we have done our job - and from all of you who were able to get your license plates here instead of having to go to BMV, we have gotten lots of big grins. Thanks!

If you have ideas on other new services we should consider offering at City Hall, please call and let us know. We are here to serve you. Contact Stephanie Weaver at 282-1032 with your ideas.
