Arbor Week Proclamation
On Monday the 21st of May, Mayor Mark Johnston proclaimed that the week of May 21st through May 25th, 2007 as a celebration of Arbor Week in the City of Saco. The following Arbor Week activities will be occurring. As in past years, representatives from Saco's Parks and Recreation Department will be speaking to all 1st and 2nd grade public school children about the need for and protection of trees in their community. Small trees provided by Central Maine Power will be handed out to the children with instructions for care and planting. Several memorial trees will also be planted around the community in various park locations as part of the City's Memorial Tree program. More information may be received by contacting either Joe Hirsch or John Sherman of the Parks and Recreation Department.
Both Joe and John are licensed arborists with the City and can be available to discuss your tree needs and concerns by contacting the Parks and Recreation office at 283-3139 or by emailing either at jhirsch@sacomaine.org or jsherman@sacomaine.org . The Saco Parks and Recreation Department is responsible for the promotion of tree care, planting and providing information on trees in our community.
