Saco Island
The Saco Island development includes in the brick mills 47 condominiums, a brew pub, and 168,000 sq. ft of commercial (chiefly office) space. On the eastern undeveloped portion of the island there will be 30 condominiums and 69 boat slips.
The development is estimated at $80 million. The Developer is Saco Island, L. P., a limited partnership, led by Harper's Development of Winthrop.
These are all in addition to the existing 90 condominiums and 60,000 sq. ft. of office/retail space. A power generating wind mill and a railroad station, which will host the Chamber of Commerce, are also planned by the City on the island.
Prime Toyota
Prime Toyota will be moving to a new facility, right across Route 1 from its current home. The site abuts the Mill Brook Business Park, Cinemagic, Martel's Ice Cream and Mini-Golf, and the Eastern Trail. About 25% of the 60 acre site would be developed; the 10 acres nearest Rte. One.
Prime will develop the former Maine Aquarium site with a new 42,000 s.f. building and 508 space parking lot.
Ross Ridge
The Ross Ridge subdivision is a 111 unit, 47 lot subdivision proposed on a 70.2 parcel bounded by Ross Road, Woodman Avenue and I-195. The development will be accessed from a new street off Ross Road. He development will feature sewer and water, stormwater controls, sidewalks, streetlights, street trees and dedicated open space. The developer is Chamberlain Properties, LLC c/o Elliott Chamberlain, 1022 Portland Road, Saco, Maine.
Intelligent Controls Inc.
Incon, a unit of Franklin Fueling Systems (a division of Franklin Electric) operates a plant in Saco which makes gasoline tank monitoring equipment and other electronic monitoring systems. The local branch was founded in Saco 25 years ago by Alan Lukas. Franklin, which purchased the company in 2002, has world wide operations, manufacturing pumps and other industrial equipment. The company's sales of tank monitoring equipment have grown substantially in recent years, with significant sales to China and India.
The company now employs about 50 persons in leased space of 15,700 square feet at 92 Industrial Park Road. It plans a 32,000 square foot building in the Spring Hill Section of the Saco Industrial Park. The building would be expandable to 50,000 square feet. The company expects a substantial increase in employment.
