On Exhibition at the Saco Museum
Making Her Way: Mill Girls of Saco and Biddeford
On October 30, 2009, the Saco Museum unveiled a new permanent exhibit, Making Her Way: Mill Girls of Saco and Biddeford. Designed to evoke the interior of a factory girl boardinghouse bedroom from the 1840s, this exhibit provides a glimpse into the lives of the early 19th- century factory girls with artifacts ranging from period furniture, textiles, and loom shuttles to letters, photographs, and sensational fiction. The bedchamber also features a dress-up trunk, allowing visitors to experience the factory girl fashion of the 1840s and 1850s. Making Her Way is a preview of the Saco Museum's new, upcoming permanent exhibition, Making History: Art and Industry in the Saco River Valley, which opens May 29, 2010. Making History is funded by a Preserve America grant administered by the National Park Service, Department of the Interior, and by the Maine Humanities Council.

Visions of Sugarplums: 2009 Festival of Trees
Our fifth annual festival of trees is bigger and better than ever! Beautifully decorated trees, wreaths, and more will fill the Main Gallery of the Saco Museum and be available for auction. For the first time ever, all the major rooms of the Saco Museum will also be decorated by designers hand-picked by our Festival of Trees Committee. Events for all ages include a children's tea, a craft day for families, a teen coffee house, musical performances, and a gala with festive music and delicious holiday treats. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, the Festival of Trees is FREE and open to the public throughout the exhibition. Please join us for this popular and spirit-warming community event, now extended through New Year's Eve.
