The Main Street Lighting Project will be nearing completion by the end of March. The project consisted of:
- Removing the overhead utilities and putting them underground
- Installing at retrofitting house connections to accept underground utilities
- Resetting granite curbing
- Removing and replacing brick sidewalk with concrete pavers
- Installing new street lighting to match the work done in 2006
- Addition and replacement of stormwater and catch basins
- Reconstruction of road and sidewalk on Cross Street
Labreque Construction of Portland was the contractor awarded the project with their subcontractor, Moullison Electric of Biddeford. The contractors did an outstanding job working on a busy Main Street. We received very little complaints and more compliments about their work and dealing with the public during this transition.
One significant change in the lighting on this project compared to the first phase was the installation of new LED lighting in the new street lights. The color and lighting characteristics are consistent with the existing incandescent lighting in the downtown section and will operate at 2/3 the power consumption of the existing lighting.
The estimated construction cost of the project is expected to be approximately $875,000 and is within the budget for the project. The project did have a grant contribution from the Maine Department of Transportation for $317,000.
