  • FAQ of the month: Where can I launch my boat, canoe or kayak to access the ocean or the river?

Answer: Ocean There are three boat ramps with ocean access on the Saco River. The first is located at the Camp Ellis Municipal wharf located in Camp Ellis at the end of Ferry Road (this is the closest launch on the Saco River to the ocean), next closest is in Biddeford at Marblehead located on Pool Road, and third is on Front Street next to the Saco Yacht Club.

Freshwater In the Saco and Biddeford area there are two fresh water-launching sites on the Saco River, one is located at Diamond Riverside Park located at the end of Irving Street and the other is at Rotary Park located in Biddeford on outer Main Street. Launching canoes You can put in at either of the launches listed above and paddle upstream only from these locations. Day and overnight trips may be accessed at the headwaters of the Saco nearer the N.H. border around the Fryeburg area. There is a canoe and kayak hand launch only provided by the Maine Department of Transportation adjacent to the Route 5 bridge on the inland Saco-Biddeford line.
