New loan program offers smart way to finance home energy improvements

Maine PACE Loans is a new financing program that allows homeowners to finance energy efficiency upgrades. These loans provide a way for homeowners to borrow funds at a competitive interest rate to make energy improvements, such as installing a new energy-efficient heating system, weatherizing their home with measures such as insulation, air sealing, and replacement of inefficient appliances and lighting.

With a fixed interest rate of 4.99 percent, loans can have up to a 15-year repayment period, and are transferable upon the sale of the property. Loans can range anywhere from $6,500 to $15,000.

This new home energy efficiency financing program is being offered by Efficiency Maine - Maine's highly successful energy efficiency program. So far Efficiency Maine has helped more than 2,000 Maine households in over 225 towns across the state save an average of 36% per year in energy costs. At current heating oil prices, that amounts to around $1,300 in annual energy savings per home! More than 70 Maine municipalities statewide representing approximately 50% of the state's population have already made this new financing tool available to residents, and more municipalities are joining every month.

If your home is drafty and cold in the winter, or if you feel that you're paying too much to heat your home, Maine PACE Loans can help to improve home comfort while saving you money year after year. In many situations the energy savings will offset your loan payments. Homeowners now have an affordable and convenient way to take control of high heating and electric bills. I urge you to visit the Efficiency Maine website at www.efficiencymaine/pace to learn more about this exciting and limited time opportunity. You can also call 1-866-376-2463.
