Sweetser donates vital equipment to the Saco Fire Department

Sweetser has donated an emergency extraction cutting tool to the Saco Fire Department.

Sweetser CEO Carl Pendleton said, "The service that the men and women of the Saco Fire Department provide is invaluable to our community, and we have benefitted from that, most notably on our residential campus on Moody Street. We are fortunate to be in a position to make this donation to the Saco Fire Department in appreciation of the efforts they have made over the years to Sweetser."

Sweetser worked together with the Saco Fire Department to determine an appropriate donation based on the needs of the department. After consideration of current equipment, the Saco Fire Department chose the Genesis "All 9 Cutter" because it efficiently meets the needs of the department today and will serve them well into the future. This equipment is specifically designed to cut through the newer generation vehicles of today which utilize stronger metals, which make using older cutter models less efficient and are fast becoming obsolete. Another important factor the SFD took into consideration when choosing this specific piece of equipment, was the ability of it to be interoperable with their current extrication equipment along with the equipment utilized by neighboring fire departments.

Saco Deputy Chief Robert Martin explained, "In this day, with limited resources we need to be prepared whenever we come upon an accident scene. This will be the tool of choice as the automobile industry moves toward using new technology that while making vehicles safer for occupants during a crash, proves a challenge to cut through during an extraction operation."

Chief Martin continued, "In the economic situation of today, being able to purchase this type of equipment has become more difficult and Sweetser's donation has given us the ability to add value to the department, the city, our citizens, and our surrounding communities."
