City of Saco - Joe Riley Quality Service Award
Download form You may download the nomination form for the Joe Riley award by following this link.
The City of Saco will be starting an employee recognition program titled the 'Joe Riley Quality Service Award, named for a former employee whose job performance epitomizes an outstanding employee.

Joseph Riley was employed by the City of Saco as an assistant Code Enforcement Officer from 1986 through 1997. While fulfilling his regular code enforcement duties, Joe would always go above and beyond what was asked of him; he would see or hear something that needed to be done, fixed, improved, bought, removed, or cared for and he would find a way to get the job done, at times even using his own personal time and resources. He never looked for a thank you or reward - he just cared for people and the community.

The award will be open to all employees - full time, part time, seasonal, union/non union; and merit/non merit eligibility. The intent of this program is to recognize an outstanding employee or group of employees for exceptional performance and to inspire employees to perform at their highest levels.

The award will be given on a quarterly basis. Nominations can be made by any employee, citizen, or board/committee member and ought to be submitted to the City Administration Office by the following dates:
  • October 1st
  • January 1st
  • April 1st
  • July 1st
Candidates for this award should meet the criteria as established on the Nomination Form

A selection committee will meet quarterly to review nominations. The Committee will consist of a diverse group of seven (7) members representing the City. Tammy Lambert, Personnel Officer will Chair the Committee and be responsible for appointing new members as needed. If a Committee member nominates an employee, they will be asked to abstain from the Committee voting process for that award quarter.

The recipient(s) of the Award will receive a $100 gift card. A presentation to the recipient will be made at a televised City Council meeting for each quarter. Recipients throughout the year will be recognized at the Employee Holiday Party in December of each year. A plaque will be purchased and recipient names will be added as awards are given.

The first award will be given in November of 2007. Please take time to think about a deserving employee and submit your nomination form to the City Administrator's Office.
