Some frequently asked questions
How do you get information about the Parks & Recreation Department?
We distribute information in a variety of ways. During the school year we rely on handouts going out in the student's packets. We post information on the department's website and send information out in our email newsletter. If you have not signed up for the newsletter just visit our website, on the left hand side you will see a place to add your email address. We have also begun to hang handouts up at different buildings around the city. These would include City Hall, Dyer Library and major grocery stores and small convenience stores.

Why do we have deadlines?
Over the last few years we have added new programs but more importantly we have worked on structuring our existing programs, this along with our great group of volunteers has boosted the number of participants in our programs. In order to provide a quality program time must be dedicated towards planning, scheduling, allocation of space (gyms and fields), ordering of equipment and t-shirts as well as forming the teams and lining up our volunteers. In most of our larger programs we are dealing with hundreds of children. Once a deadline is reached we establish the number of teams and usually have a few remaining spots to fill. We want everyone to participate so anyone registered before a deadline will be put on a team. Help us by registering early.

Where do you see the biggest growth in Recreation in Saco?
We see the biggest area of need for us is in our adult and senior programs. We have already started to add new things such as monthly Mall trips in our new bus. We have gone shopping in Kittery and had lunch at the Culinary Arts program at SMCC all while keeping this affordable. We are also planning a few social and recreation programs for our new Transportation Center. We will be offering Cribbage, Chess and Checkers mornings very soon. All of this and much more will be announced during 2009 -2010.

If you have ideas for any new programs or would like to offer a program thru us please call The Saco Parks & recreation Department at 283-3139.
