Saco Community Garden
A Community Project that will
provide affordable garden plots,
utilize organic gardening practices
and promote a ÒgrowingÓ garden
community.
We welcome other interested
gardeners and local businesses to
participate in supporting this project
that will provide food for our
neighbors' tables as well as an
enriching network of people who
work to help themselves.
OUR MISSION
The Saco Community Garden's Mission is to
create a garden following organic practices,
provide affordable garden plots for growing
healthy food and flowers, support a community
of gardeners and promote a green and
sustainable Saco.
How You Can Help: Steps to Making the Saco Community Garden Happen
- Join the SCG to lend your ideas and volunteer your
skills
- Spread the word to potential gardeners and
supporters
- Help develop a website
- Donate tools, soil amendments and other supplies
- Volunteer to till, turn and weed to start the
garden beds
There are going to be many exciting opportunities
as this project moves forward. Your time, talent and
opinion are welcome.
The first major goal of the SCG is to establish a site for
rental garden plots for the spring of 2010. Before the
first plot is dug and planted, a suitable piece of land,
gardening materials and organizational plans need to
be chosen. SCG plans to create a 10 feet by 10 feet
demonstration vegetable garden this year as a model
for the future.
