Planning is planning
The Planning and Development Department works on many projects, many of which the word "planning" doesn't really cover. A daily staple is development reviews, which usually keeps the Planning Board and staff very busy, and on special projects, such as building the Amtrak Station or building and marketing a business park.

This year the focus is really on planning, however, with four major plans the focus of much of the department's attention.

Two of the plans are nearing completion and headed to the City Council for consideration soon. These are a regional transportation plan and economic development plan. An update to the city's comprehensive land use plan is entering the final stages and should be headed for the Council in early 2011. A fourth plan, a regional look at sea level rise in the Saco Bay, is just getting under way.
