- FAQ of the month: Why do I have to register my dog?
Answer:The State of Maine wants to try to assure that all dogs that roam have had their rabies vaccine.
Dogs must be licensed on or before Jan. 1st of each year. The City Clerk's office may issue licenses for the following year after October 15th. A $25.00 late fee, in addition to the licensing fee, will be required after Jan. 30th. Should the name of an owner of an unlicensed dog appear on the Dog Warrant, on April 1st, the Animal Control Officer will give the owner an opportunity to license their pet. The owner will be required to pay a late fee in addition to the licensing fee. Should the owner disregard the request, the Animal Control Office may issue a summons requiring the owner to appear in court.
