Patriot's Day Storm - Damaged/threatened buildings
Return to Patriot's Day Storm home page

If your building or seawall is located in a coastal sand dune system and has been damaged by the recent storm, you need to have a Code Enforcement Officer, a state-licensed professional engineer, or a state-certified geologist make a determination that it is threatened.

After that determination has been made, you will be authorized to place rip-rap, sandbags or other heavy nonhazardous material to shore up the threatened structure and leave the material in place until a project designed to repair or replace the structure is permitted by the State Department of Environmental Protection and the City of Saco.

The procedure to follow in order to obtain a state permit is more fully outlined in Title 38, section 480-W of the Maine Statutes and can be found by following this link.

If you have any questions or would like to set up an appointment with a Code Enforcement Officer, please contact us at 207 284-6983 or at dlambert@sacomaine.org.
