The Board consists of seven members appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Council, for a term of 5 years. Primarily the Zoning Board of Appeals, after public hearing and majority vote of its members, will decide administrative appeals, planning board appeals, variances, historic preservation commission appeals, shore-land variances, and denials of building permits.
Zoning Board of Appeals meetings are held on an as needed basis. When the Board has a pending appeal, a meeting will generally be scheduled for the first Monday of the month. Zoning Board meetings begin at 7 pm and are usually held at Saco City Hall depending on meeting room availability. A notice is required to be published in the local newspaper as well as to be sent by first class mail to abutting property owners at least 7 days prior to the meeting.
