Eligible City residents may apply to the City of Saco for tax relief through the Senior Citizen Tax Work- off Program. Individuals must be 60 years of age prior to April 1, meet income guidelines, own their own home, and reside at that property. Upon acceptance into the program, participants will be assigned to work in a mutually agreeable location within the City. Participants will receive a credit of $750 towards their Saco property taxes after completing 75 hours of service time. The income limits are $40,450 for a single household and $46,200 for a two-person household.
Many exciting opportunities are available for seniors who wish to earn credit for their property taxes. Many of our Tax Work-Off program participants are Station Hosts at the Saco Train Station and there are some openings available. Other possible work locations include the Tax Collector’s Office, Clerk’s office, School Department, the Age Friendly Saco Program, and various other offices within City Hall. There may be additional positions available soon. Training will be provided upon acceptance into the program.
