SENIOR TAX RELIEF PROGRAMS

Are you a senior citizen in need of help paying your property taxes?  You may be eligible for a tax relief program provided by the City of Saco.

Senior Citizen Tax Work-Off Program

Eligible Saco homeowners may apply to the City of Saco for tax relief through the Senior Citizen Tax Work-Off Program.  Participating senior citizens provide service hours to the municipality in exchange for a property tax credit.

Applicants must meet the following qualifications:

  • 65 years of age prior to April 1, 2020.
  • Meet income guidelines.
  • Own their own home in Saco for a minimum of three years and reside at that property.

The program will run from May 1, 2020 to April 30, 2021. Participants must provide 100 service hours in order to receive up to a $1200 credit (minus applicable taxes) towards their property tax bill. This program is pending yearly council approval.

Many interesting opportunities are available for seniors who wish to earn credit for their property taxes.  Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, some positions are not available at this time. Participants have assisted at the Saco Train Station, Tax Collector’s Office, City Clerk’s office, School Department, Age Friendly Saco Program, and various other offices within City Hall. Couples may choose to serve together at the train station.   Training will be provided upon acceptance into the program.

Applications are due on April 1, 2020.  Please mail all applications to the following address:
