Age Friendly Saco

Age Friendly Saco

On January 19, 2016, one of the annual goals adopted by the Saco City Council was: “To actively seek an AARP grant that would assist in the development of a plan to make Saco an Age-Friendly Community”.  Making our community livable for all ages, and addressing the issues of aging across the continuum, will require collaboration between all sectors of our community. In order for us to accomplish this goal, we need to join forces to identify the resources already in place, identify unmet needs, and plan the programming and infrastructure necessary to make Saco “A Community for a Lifetime”. To successfully achieve this objective, we will need to recruit volunteers, as well as mobilize our community leaders to call citizens to action.

Tri-Community Age Friendly Transportation

The Age Friendly Organizations in Biddeford, Saco, and Old Orchard Beach have collaborated with ShuttleBus-Zoom to connect seniors with transportation options. Check out the brochure here.

Knox Boxes

Age Friendly Saco is collaborating with Dupuis Hardware and the Saco Fire Department to make these boxes available and more affordable for residents of Saco.

A Knox HomeBox is a small metal box that hangs on your exterior door and securely holds a key to your house.  This box can only be opened by the Saco Fire Department, so that in the event of an emergency, they can enter the home quickly (when seconds matter) without causing any damage to the door.

Please call (207)710-5029 for additional information.

Sand Buckets for Seniors

Age Friendly Saco, in collaboration with the Saco Public Works Department, will pick up 5-gallons of sand-salt mixture for any homebound resident older than 65 who needs it, and deliver it to their home in a pail provided by the Age Friendly Saco group. To have it delivered, call (207)710-5029 and leave a message if no one is in the office. Or you can complete the application below.
