ELECTION HELP

WE ARE CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR RESIDENTS TO SERVE IN THE FOLLOWING PAID POSITIONS:

Election Warden - Ward 3 for Municipal & State Election


There are usually 2 elections per year.  Every 4 years in the Presidential Election year, there are 3 elections that year.  These are paid positions and the city provides coffee in the morning and dinner for all workers.   Workers are required to be available all day from 6:00 a.m. to roughly 10:00 p.m. with time off for breaks, lunch and dinner.  A training session is provided before each election.

To be a Warden or Ward Clerk you would need the following qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizen;
  • At least 18 years of age;
  • Registered voter in Saco;
  • The warden does not have to be enrolled in a party;
  • The Warden may not be an officer of a municipal committee of a party;
The duties of the Warden are as follows:

  • Attend Polls - Remain at the voting place while the polls are open and during the counting of the ballots (must remain the entire time-unless a ward clerk is there to assume the duties);
  • Maintain Order -Oversee the voting place and the area within 250 feet of the voting place entrance; direct the removal of any person who creates a distrubance or otherwise violates the law;
  • Enforce Election Laws - Ensure compliance with laws pertaining to voting and counting procedures (at the voting palce over which the warden has jurisdiction);
  • Supervise Election Officials - Supervise election officials and assign their duties, may swear in the ward clerk and the election clerks;
  • Designate Location - Determine the location within the voting place where the collection of signatures may take place;
  • AVS - Oversee the operation  of the State's Accessible Voting Solution (AVS);
  • Perform Other Duties - Perform any other duties for presiding at the polls.
  • The warden may not replace election clerks or perform their duties.


Election Clerk’s


We are currently looking for individuals who would be interested in serving as Election Clerks on Election Day.  The Election Clerks are the election officials who are appointed to represent the qualified party in which they are enrolled and provide a check and balance in the electoral process. 

There are usually 2 elections per year.   Every 4 years in the Presidential Election year, there are 3 elections that year.  These are paid positions and the city provides coffee in the morning and dinner for all workers.  Workers are required to be available all day from 6:00 a.m. to roughly 10:00 p.m. with time off for breaks, lunch and dinner.  A training session is provided before each election.

To be an Election Clerk you would need the following qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizen;
  • At least 18 years of age; except that student election clerks may be 17 years of age and may perform all the functions of an election clerk;
  • Registered voter in Saco;
  • Enrolled in one of the major or minor qualified parties.  Note:  Un-enrolled voters are also selected because sometimes there are insufficient major or minor party clerks available.

The duties of the Election Clerk are as follows:

  • Supervise Incoming Voting List – check voters off the list;
  • Hand out the appropriate ballot to the voters;
  • Supervise the Voting Machine – assist voters if they are having trouble inserting ballots into the machine;
  • Count Ballots at the end of the evening and prepare the Tally Sheets to give to the Warden for them to finalize;
  • Assist with putting all the election materials away at the end of the evening and securing used and unused ballots.
