Office Hours & Holiday Closures

We miss face-to-face interaction with our community members, but continue to encourage you to conduct business online, by phone, through email, or by appointment whenever possible. You can pay city bills, reregister vehicles, and report a problem using our website at www.sacomaine.org – or you can also call us at (207) 282-1032 to reach a city staff person to assist you or send an email to the specific department.

City Council Meetings and other boards and committees will continue to host virtual meetings until further notice. The following are still actively meeting and conducting business online:
City Council (more info at sacomaine.org/watchmeetings)
Planning Board
Economic Development Commission
Historic Preservation Commission
Conservation Commission
Energy & Sustainability Committee
Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee

City Hall Procedures – Effective July 1, 2020
While customers wait in line to register a vehicle, pay property taxes, acquire hunting and fishing licenses, or process other financial transactions, we ask them to stand on the decals we installed to ensure social distancing. A representative from the Finance Department will issue tickets to those waiting in line at 3:30 PM and will serve each customer with a ticket before the doors close at 5:00 PM. If you arrive after 3:30 PM and there is a long line, we will ask you to return at a different time to complete your transaction. We will re-evaluate this process after a few weeks and make adjustments accordingly.

If you need to reach Code Enforcement, City Clerk, Assessing, or Planning & Development Departments, we highly encourage calling to make an appointment to avoid waiting in line. Similarly, if you are waiting in line outside City Hall to visit with one of the above departments, you may call (207) 282-1032.

You will notice some additional protective barriers, social distancing markers, and other safety enhancements in the building. Please wear a mask when conducting business inside City Hall if you can. If you are unable to provide your own mask, please let us know when making your appointment or when you see the volunteer at the city hall entrance.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we implement these precautionary measures.

Assessing Department:

To schedule an appointment, please call (207)282-1611 or email assessor@sacomaine.org.

A drop box will be available outside of City Hall for citizens to drop off any forms (exemptions, personal property declarations, and miscellaneous correspondence) that do not require in-person business. All in-person business needs an appointment throughout June.

To schedule an appointment, please call (207)284-4831.

For information about elections and absentee voting, please visit www.sacomaine.org/elections. Absentee ballots can be requested over the phone by calling (207)284-4831, or you can apply online here.

We encourage you to use the designated absentee ballot drop box outside of City Hall or mail your ballot back to City Hall (300 Main Street). You can also make an appointment to vote by calling (207)284-4831.

Voting will take place in the front lobby using the double-doors on Main Street. Accommodations are available for those with mobility limitations. Two booths will open in the front lobby for those who want to vote on-site by appointment.

General Assistance:

To schedule an appointment, please call (207)282-8206. Appointments are on Tuesday afternoons and Thursday mornings. Phone appointments will continue throughout June, and in-person appointments will be held in the first-floor conference room upon request.

Code Enforcement:

To schedule an appointment or inspection, please call (207)284-6983. You can also do business online by visiting the Code Enforcement page on www.sacomaine.org.

Please note: an inspector may refuse to perform an inspection if he or she has reason to believe it is unsafe to do so. The inspector may make alternate arrangements to perform the inspection, including the submission of photographs or video recordings of the work to be inspected.

Finance:

As a reminder, we encourage you to do business online or using our City Hall mailbox whenever possible. Doing business online will help you avoid the lines!

Visit our website at https://www.sacomaine.org/departments/finance/pay_bills_online.php for information about re-registering your vehicle or paying taxes online to skip the wait.

Planning and Economic Development:

For an appointment, please call (207)282-3487 or email the staff person directly. For a list of staff emails, click here.

For information regarding digital Planning Board, Historic Preservation Commission, and Economic Development Commission meetings, please visit the board and committee page on our website.

For questions about private businesses reopening, please contact the State Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) at 1-800-872-3838 or email the DECD business.answers@maine.gov as the city does not dictate the checklists and guidelines.

Communications

Get in touch or set up an appointment by e-mailing SacoTV@sacomaine.org or calling (207) 282-4191. Please visit the City of Saco’s website or Facebook page for updates.

COVID19 Resources:
If you are uncertain how to accomplish something with the city due to the pandemic, need help finding available community or business resources, or are experiencing food insecurity, give us a call. We will do our best to point you in the right direction. Please call our Administration Department at (207)282-4191 or please submit the online form. While this is not a crisis hotline or a place to get official updates on COVID-19, it will serve as a helpful way to connect citizens with services and resources. For official updates on COVID-19, the City of Saco continues to recommend following the Maine CDC guidelines and orders from Governor Mills. Remember, 211 is a helpful resource for updates regarding COVID-19.

Police, Fire, and Emergency Services: 911

Police, Fire, and emergency services will remain fully operational. The lobby of the Police and Fire Departments will be closed for non-essential business for the next two weeks.
