The piping plover is a small shorebird which makes its habitat in sandy beaches and is federally listed as a threatened bird species. Saco has a piping plover population at our beaches at Bayview and Kinney Shores.

Saco Parks and Recreation asks for volunteers to be piping plover monitors at our local beaches each year during the spring, summer, and fall seasons. Requirements of volunteers include that they must be able to walk the beach at least once a week to monitor the birds, watch for disturbances, and report any issues to the department.
We are looking for monitors to begin starting April 1, 2021. For more information or to express your interest in becoming a volunteer piping plover monitor, please contact SPR Director Ryan Sommer at 283-3139 x812 or email@example.com.
