Veterans Day Parade

A Veterans plaque taken from Saco in the 1970s will be re-dedicated Monday after being found in a Connecticut business earlier this year.

The Biddeford + Saco Veterans Day Parade will culminate at Memorial Field at CK Burns in Saco Nov. 11 to re-dedicate the plaque that was originally dedicated on Veterans Day in 1953 and was taken by a Connecticut softball team in the 1970s. In January 2019two veterans found the plaque in a local business in Connecticut and approached the business owner about returning it. They contacted the City of Saco and returned the plaque soon after. The Parks and Recreation Department restored and reinstalled the plaque at Memorial Field at CK Burns School.

The Veteran’s Day Parade starts at the corner of Pool and Alfred Streets in Biddeford with the opening ceremony at 9:45 a.m.

The parade, organized by Heart of Biddeford, will head down Alfred Street toward Main Street, turn right on Main Street and head on Main into Saco. The parade will turn right onto Beach Street and right onto Middle Street Extension. From there it will enter the parking lot at CK Burns School and end at Memorial Field with the closing ceremony and re-dedication of the plaque. Following the parade, all are invited to AmVets Post #1, 147 Alfred Street in Biddeford, for a luncheon.
